The Writing Bug: some have it and some don't

I definitely would have fallen into the “some don’t” category until recently. I think I can honestly say that I have never wanted to be an author. Things change, though, and while it is still not something that I have an absolute drive to do, I have found that it comes fairly naturally to me. Probably comes from devouring books for the last…well more years than I like to try to figure out. I have found that for me the writing process mostly requires time on my part and the discipline to sit and make myself write. When I do, the words just flow right out.

I think this ability comes from being a natural storyteller. There is a difference between telling a short story verbally to people and actually writing a book.  But that innate ability to spin a good yarn certainly makes life easier if you are trying to entertain people with your writing. While I haven’t ever really had the desire to be an author, I have always been pretty good at telling a story and I think a lot of people that know me would consider me to be creative. Quite a few of the things I have been interested in my life fall under the creative umbrella; music, culinary arts, and now writing, not to mention all the crafting I do thanks to Pinterest.

I really thought that I would struggle with coming up with different story ideas but as I’ve been spending more time thinking about writing more, I’ve been coming up with some new ideas. I write them down because I’m a slow writer. Mostly because I procrastinate about sitting down to write. There always seems to be something I give more importance to. I don’t usually do New Year’s resolutions but I may need to make writing more often one of them this year.
