Inspiration

Inspiration

I would not say that I’m a prolific writer, and the fact that I’ve only published one book three years ago points to that fact.  I don’t really have book ideas churning around in my head day and night.  As a matter of fact, I find authors that publish new books every few months to be some sort of odd specimen that people should study to find how and why they are able to do that.

I do occasionally have some inspiration and it typically comes in the middle of the night in the form of dreams.  I’ll wake up in the morning and I’ll remember my dream.  Sometimes the dreams are just like watching a movie so I write down everything I remember and hold on to it for a while.  Eventually, I begin to try to fill in some of the backstory because I’m usually dropped into the dream around the climactic action.

Once I begin thinking about the backstory, I will think about outlining a book.  Nothing fancy.  Just three paragraphs that are titled beginning, middle, and end.  Then I’ll start making notes of details that I know I want to include.  And that’s where I’m at right now.  Well, I guess I’m a little farther on than that; I have the first chapter mostly done.  But I stalled out there for some time. I have since started a new technique to get more writing done. More on that to come.
