Stalling and Procrastination Techniques
I have a confession to make. As of writing this blog post, I have completely stalled out on writing my next book. It’s been on my long-term goals list for a couple of years now. And during the pandemic, I did make an outline and lots of notes. I even have most of a first chapter done. But I hit a snag that I just haven’t puzzled out yet. And so I have been procrastinating.
I don’t tend to binge-watch TV while procrastinating, which is lucky for me really. I might watch some but it’s not what keeps me from writing. I tend to feel too guilty about not doing what I think I should be doing that I find other ways to be productive.
When I was in school, it was usually housework that got done. Right now, I keep finding other projects to do. Like redecorate my office, create a website, write blog posts (ahh hmm), create a social media plan…and then stall out on it as well.
I like to think that I am subconsciously getting my ducks in a row when I stall out. And eventually, the guilt gets to be too much and I can’t justify working on the other projects I come up with. All of the projects I have worked on are things that need to be done, as an author, with the exception of the office. But I’m hoping it will inspire me to want to spend more time in there writing.
